I'm with you on the whole less is more approach. I reckon that if we all would spend more time with getting to know ourselves instead of letting all this media distract us, we'd be an awful lot healthier and happier.
All this at the moment reminds me of the Romans. Their thing was distraction. Give the masses cake and games and they will do as they are told. Their games were brutal and bloody - but I feel that ours are far more dangerous and effective.
I was chatting with a relative who's in his late 20s the other day and he said when he had a particular car and size of house, he'd know he'd 'arrived'. I did talk to him about the whole issue of 'stuff' but at that age, so many people are inspired by what they see on social media. It really saddens me and it feels such a mistake to make accumulating things a goal.
I read that phrase somewhere Dana and I have to regularly remind myself that knowing what causes feelings doesn't make them go away. Collagen supplements drive me mad 🤣
I love your phrase "sensation without explanation." There’s so much freedom in not needing to immediately turn every sensation into a problem to solve... simply trusting what we already sense, and letting ourselves respond without adding more noise.
P.S. Yes, I do feel like we’re living in the era of *duck face and collagen supplements!!* 😂
Totally agree, Karen. I love your description of how to handle ‘sensation without explanation’. I’ve wasted so much energy on the ‘explanations’. Thank goodness for yoga and all it teaches us about sitting with the ‘sensations’.
Me too Julie! I've been full of sensations for days and I fight with myself to stop trying to explain it and why I'm feeling this way. It feels like rage and since I've pushed anger down my whole life, maybe it's trying to be heard!?
“Building a non critical, loving and compassionate relationship with myself has been and continues to be life transforming; I don’t need to look outside myself to know what I need to look and feel well”… 😊. Exactly and Bravo 🙌🏻
I value peace so much more now than I ever did when I was younger. Maybe our minds and bodies are simply rebalancing in response to the world we live in now.....
It sounds as though you have good strategies in place for recognising what you need. Wishing you a peaceful and restorative weekend 🙏
That is absolutely crazy isn't it! We seem to have lost touch with our own wisdom and to the connection within ourselves.
I've had a busy week in terms of being with people (which I've loved) but I'm aware that I need some quiet time for a few days now. I'm so pleased I can respond in a way that is more helpful than just battling on as I used to!
I read in today's newspaper that the Australian wellness industry is now worth $194 BILLION! I can't even begin to fathom that amount and we're living in an economy where people can't afford to pay their power bill, while there are others spending so much money on themselves. It makes me wonder what people did for all the decades before "wellness" became so entrenched - I'm sure they were more well than most of us are now...
Anyway, I'm glad you're finding the balance between doing and being - I find time in the quiet is the key to keeping me from getting too reactive to all the noise around me. :)
I used to blame my sleeplessness on the full moon, more than 6 oz of alcohol, sugar, or a person. Each was the culprit for a time and then wasn't. Gummies, melatonine, weed do not do it for me for insomnia. So, when I get up after 4 hours of sleep, I'll read a book. That usually makes me drowsy again...but not always. One of my art instructors said that 3:00 a.m. in the mornng is the best time to create. The world is quiet and one receives inspirations from the universe. So, you'll either find me in my art studio or in front of my computer with substack.
I love this Jackie...I got up this morning thinking it must be 4am ish and it was 2.30am! I seem to go through phases of broken sleep, but I'm retired so it isn't a problem unless I make it so. I always read too or do some cross stitch. Whatever my body seems to need, I'll listen and do it 🙂
Totally agree. The best thing to do is eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of sleep and rest. It all does wonders way beyond any supplements you can take.
I'm with you Mila! The last mammogram I attended was in a supermarket car park too. My husband has recently been to the doc's for a couple of minor issues and they've tried to get him to take 3 different types of medication, despite his lifestyle being very healthy. I think the fact you stay away from the doctors is a good thing 😉
You are very wise!

I wish for the day when marketing and advertising die entirely

Exactly. But it can be scary to surrender to such strong and ‘forbidden’ sensations. Handle with care!
I know! I've changed so much over the last few years and my husband isn't sure who this different woman is....onwards and upwards 😉

Thanks Jada. It's such a long journey from perfectionism and self criticism to self acceptance and self trust, but I'm going in the right direction 🙏💛

Oh absolutely yes Casia, I do too. My needs have changed so much in the last few years. Wishing you a peaceful and contented weekend too 😊

Cross stitching is great. I've completed a lot of them. LOL.
